Afghanistan’s star all-rounder Rashid Khan has arrived in Karachi to join his team ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The tournament will take place in Pakistan and the UAE next week. The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) shared a video on social media capturing Rashid’s warm reception at the team hotel. The video shows Rashid exchanging greetings with Pakistan’s Haris Rauf and chatting with batting star Babar Azam.
Afghanistan’s recent challenges
Rashid’s arrival comes at a crucial moment as the Afghan team aims to bounce back after a tough start to their Champions Trophy preparations. In their first warm-up match, Afghanistan faced a crushing defeat against Pakistan Shaheens. The Shaheens set a challenging total of 314/8 in their 50 overs, with notable contributions from Hussain Talat, Mohammad Irfan Khan, and Mohsin Riaz. Talat led with a score of 70, while Mohsin added 61, and Irfan contributed 57 runs.
Afghanistan struggled in reply, bowled out for a mere 170 runs in 38.4 overs, resulting in a 144-run loss. The Shaheens’ captain, Shadab Khan, took charge of the bowling with impressive figures of 3/29, disrupting Afghanistan’s batting efforts.
Upcoming matches for AFG in the Champions Trophy
Currently, under the leadership of Hashmatullah Shahidi, Afghanistan is playing a second warm-up match against New Zealand in Karachi. The team is striving to improve and fine-tune their strategies before the main event begins.
