Ashes 2023: James Anderson – James Anderson and Nathan Lyon may be one of the fiercest rivals on the field, and off the field also they continued to battle it out albeit on a different pitch. The two bowlers were seen pitching a different ball at the London Stadium for Chicago Cubs versus St Louis Cardinals baseball match. England pacer Anderson threw out the ceremonial first pitch alongside Australia counterpart Lyon.
Anderson donned Chicago Cubs jersey, while Lyon wore St Louis Cardinals jersey. The duo were accurate in pitching, encapsulating their status as bowlers.
Ashes 2023: James Anderson wants bowler-friendly pitches for the remaining four Ashes Test
Speaking about Anderson, the fast bowler did not have a fruitful outing in the first Test at Edgbaston. The veteran admitted that the pitch was not conducive enough for pacers despite trying everything in his armory to rattle the Aussie batters. Anderson is hopeful that he can contribute at some point in the Ashes series, but for that, the pitches need to be helpful.
That pitch was like kryptonite for me. There was not much swing, no reverse swing, no seam movement, no bounce, and no pace. I’ve tried over the years to hone my skills so I can bowl in any conditions, but everything I tried made no difference.
I felt like I was fighting an uphill battle. It’s a long series, and hopefully, I can contribute at some point, but if all the pitches are like that I’m done in the Ashes series,” Anderson was quoted in his column in The Telegraph.
The second Ashes Test will be played at Lord’s starting from Wednesday (June 28). Traditionally the Lord’s surface aids fast bowlers due as it provides enough swing and seam movement. Anderson has a very good record at Lord’s, picking over 100 Test wickets. Australia are leading the series 1-0.
