Watch: Another security breach at Chinnaswamy, fan escapes police’s eye to embrace Virat Kohli

The constant breaches have led many to question the 'safety' of cricket players, with things taking a wrong turn at any possible moment.

In what is becoming a recurring theme over the last few years, we saw yet another security breach at a cricket ground. Fans would remember the infamous ‘Jarvo’, who had made a habit of storming into the middle of the ground during play to meet Virat Kohli.

During the Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Punjab Kings match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, a fan stormed into the middle. The harmless fan wished to meet his idol, Virat Kohli, and did so before security dragged him away. Many would slide the incident under the rug, but the issue of player safety isn’t a small deal.

Dangers of fandom

While most of these breaches by fans seem harmless, one has to remember that it doesn’t take much for things to take a wrong turn. The Monica Seles incident remains a reminder for sportspeople all over the globe about what could go wrong.

In 1993, while playing a tennis match in Germany, a crazed fan of Steffi Graf (her rival) stormed into the court and stabbed the 19-year-old superstar. The world No. 1 was destined for greatness, having already won 7 Grand Slams. However, the encounter with a crazed fan changed her life forever.
