WATCH Angry Ben Stokes punishes Australia after Bairstow’s controversial run-out in ENG vs AUS 2nd Ashes Test

Stokes innings was fueled by the controversial run-out against his teammate Jonny Bairstow in ENG vs AUS 2nd Ashes Test.

ENG vs AUS 2nd Test: Ashes 2023: England Test captain Ben Stokes played a stunning innings and almost replicated his Headingley heroics from 2019 in the ongoing 2nd Ashes Test. England were at one point 192/6 and looked over and out but the England skipper took on the Aussie bowlers to take England closer to the target.

While Stokes started slow, he shifted the gears after the controversial dismissal of Jonny Bairstow.

Stokes took on Cameron Green in the 56th over and reached the magical three-figure mark by dispatching three consecutive sixes just before the lunch break.

The England skipper kickstarted the over with a boundary and then proceeded to unleash a barrage of sixes before calmly taking a single. Despite his remarkable feat, Stokes refrained from indulging in celebration, fully aware that the team’s target was still a considerable distance away.

The all-rounder was eventually dismissed on 155 by Josh Hazlewood in the 73rd over.

Earlier, England began the final day’s play at 114-4, requiring 257 runs to claim victory and achieve the highest successful run-chase at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground.

After a brilliant partnership between Stokes and Ben Duckett, the Australian team managed to break through when Josh Hazlewood dismissed Ben Duckett for 83, as the batsman’s glove found the hands of wicketkeeper Alex Carey. The loss of Duckett did little to deter Stokes, who continued to play his strokes and played a memorable knock.
