When India’s all-format captain, Rohit Sharma, returned to the legendary Wankhede Stadium on Monday for the Mumbai Indians‘ (MI) Indian Premier League (IPL) season 2024 home opener, a lot was expected of him. Referred to as the league’s enduring slow starters, Hardik’s MI faced Sanju Samson’s Rajasthan Royals (RR) in game number 14 of the competition at Wankhede Stadium.

Rohit tops unwanted list
In the richest T20 league globally, Rohit set a dubious record when he recorded a duck for the seventeenth time. The 36-year-old and Dinesh Karthik are the only Indian hitters with the most ducks scored in the T20 tournament. Following Rohit and Karthik is Piyush Chawla of MI, who has 16 ducks to his credit. Mandeep Singh (16), Glenn Maxwell (16), and Sunil Narine (16) are among the other names on the list.
On Monday, When Rohit faced Trent Boult in the opening over, he edged one to Sanju Samson behind the stumps to record his 17th nought in the competition, matching the dubious record held by Dinesh Karthik.
