Wasim Akram faces harassment, security tightened at Perth stadium during IND vs AUS Test

During the India vs Australia series at Perth, Wasim Akram faced harassment from a fan, leading to increased security measures at the Optus Stadium.

In a surprising turn of events, Wasim Akram faced harassment from a fan on IND vs AUS Test Day 2 (Saturday, November 23) of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar series. This incident happened at the Optus Stadium in Perth, forcing tight security measures on Day 3 of the match on Sunday. Akram is part of the broadcast team covering the Test series as a broadcaster.

Heated exchange with a fan

According to a report by Australian media, Wasim Akram got into a heated exchange with a fan who verbally abused him. The altercation happened during the match and caused a brief commotion before security stepped in to manage the situation.

Earlier that day, the Pakistani cricket legend had signed an autograph for the young fan, who seemed overjoyed to meet him. However, by evening, as Akram was leaving the venue to catch a cab, the same fan turned aggressive, shouting insults at him.

Security tightened at Optus Stadium

As the argument intensified, security personnel quickly intervened and removed the fan from the area. It is not clear if the fan had been drinking during the incident. Cricket authorities made it clear that the abuse directed at Wasim Akram was not racially motivated but recognised the need for tighter security for the remaining Test days to ensure everyone’s safety.

Akram, who has lived in Australia since marrying Shaniera Thompson in 2011, is familiar with the country. After the incident, Cricket Australia and stadium officials acted promptly to ensure the safety of all broadcast members and those involved off the field.
