Pakistan were beaten all ends up when they locked horns against arch nemesis India in Match 5 of the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai. Hosting the tournament despite innumerable hurdles, Pakistan will leave their own party early as their chances to qualify for the semi-final are virtually gone. Virat Kohli’s another masterclass saw them bow down their shoulders as India won the clash with six wickets in hand. However, the shoulders were more than upright for Pakistan when Abrar Ahmed bowled a beauty to get rid of Shubman Gill. But it was what happened afterwards that made all the headlines.
Needless send-off by Abrar Ahmed to Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill was batting like a man possessed. Some of his shots were poetry in motion but it was all halted when tweaker Abrar Ahmed came up with a superb leg-break to castle the Indian opener. However, it didn’t stop there. Abrar slotted in his celebration and poked Gill to go back to the pavilion with a needless gesture. The Abrar send-off to Gill wasn’t needed. This is of course, as per former Pakistani legend Wasim Akram. Akram, who bashed the entire Pakistan team after their dull performance, took time to slam the youngster as well for his send-off. While speaking to the Sports Central’s YouTube channel, Akram said,
“I was very impressed with the ball, I wasn’t impressed with the celebrations. Time aur jagah hoti hain na yaar (There is time and place for it, buddy). If you are winning, celebrate. When you know the team is stuck, you get the wicket; be humble. Be Humble. But that’s not happening. There is no one to tell him that.”
Celebration killed everything. When you get seven wickets for five runs, I can understand. It doesn’t look nice. I mean it doesn’t even look nice on TV.” – Wasim Akram on Abrar Ahmed’s celebrations (Gill),” he added.
