Washington Sundar has found a few suitors after an excellent showing for India across formats in the last couple of months. Currently with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Washington has failed to get much game time in the last three seasons. With little to no chance of the all-rounder getting a direct retention by SRH, at least three franchises have shown interest in him and would bid come the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Huge interest in Washington Sundar
Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mumbai Indians (MI), and Gujarat Titans (GT) all want him on their side. Apart from being an excellent powerplay bowler, Washington can also bat anywhere in the batting order, providing a team with incredible flexibility. But SRH are interested in retaining him. They probably won’t use direct retention but are exactly to employ an RTM (Right to Match) card. There is no doubt that even more teams will be interested in the 25-year-old.
“Sundar is keen to go into the auction pool. At the moment, at least three teams—the Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans, and Chennai Super Kings—have shown a huge interest in him. While he will not be in the Sunrisers Hyderabad’s retention list, SRH could retain Sundar in the IPL auction by using the RTM (Right to Match) card,” a source told the Times of India.
Sundar’s splendid 2024
Despite playing just two games in the IPL 2024 season, Washington has done well in T20 cricket in 2024. For India, he’s taken 16 wickets at 12.75 and is going under 6/per over this year. During these matches, he’s got only five chances to bat, of which he’s remained unbeaten thrice and scored over 25 the other two times.
But it’s not just T20 performance; in the last few months, he’s done well if and when given the chance. First-class, ODIs, or Tests—he’s shown his talent and range when an opportunity has been given. He’s finally understood his game and seems to be in complete control. If there is time to bid for him, it’s the IPL 2025 mega auction.
