Yuzvendra Chahal made a comeback to Team India for the ICC T20 World Cup. After consecutive snubs, the ace spinner wove his magic in IPL 2024 to secure his spot in the team for the Men in Blue. Chahal marks his comeback in National colours after being away from the team for around 9 months. But the pertinent question remains – Was it too bold by India to pick Chahal over Ravi Bishnoi?
Yuzvendra Chahal last featured for India in T20Is back in August of 2023. He last played in National Colours when India toured the Caribbeans. But soon after that he was snubbed for Asia Cup 2023 and then his exile got extended to the ODI World Cup. Chahal’s exile continued for the South Africa as well as the Afghanistan series.
But the veteran spinner continued to strive hard in domestic cricket and then wove magic in IPL 2024. He became the first bowler in the history of the game to scalp 200 wickets in the history of the tournament.

Bold choice for Team India?
So the question remains – Why did Yuzvendra Chahal face an exile? In his last series, he played 5 matches against the West Indies at the Caribbeans. And in those 5 matches, his bowling performances have been sub-par. He went on to concede 163 runs in the entire series and had a high economy of 9.05.
Now this is a bold choice considering that the T20 World Cup will be held at the same countries. India played 3 matches in the Caribbeans and rounded the series with 2 matches in Florida.
It will be too early to judge as form always takes precedence in big games. Should the Yuzi Chahal gamble fail, then India can easily opt for Axar Patel in the team.
