Wanted to go out with bang: Dean Elgar says after Daddy century in IND vs SA 1st Test

Dean Elgar was scalped by Shardul Thakur as he missed his double-century by 15 runs.

Former South Africa skipper Dean Elgar missed out on a well-deserved double-century as he was scalped by Shardul Thakur for 185 runs on Day 3 of the ongoing IND vs SA 1st Test. Playing his last Test series, Elgar said that he wanted to out with a bang and had nothing to do with proving anyone wrong.

I don’t think I wanted to prove any point. Just that I wanted to go out with a bang as that is standard I set for myself as there’s no looking back now. It was quite a good wicket to bat on. Had there been more sun, it would have been tougher. It’s just that it’s been my way. Could have been another batter another day,” said Dean Elgar.

Coming out to bat on Day 3, Dean Elgar looked positive with the bat as he alongside Marco Jansen scored runs freely. The left-handed batter soon completed the 150-run mark landmark. On the other hand, Jansen also completed his fifty. Elgar was looking all set for his maiden double-hundred but Shardul Thakur managed to get his wicket.

Earlier in the match, Dean slammed his 14th Test ton, which enabled the hosts to overcome the visitors’ first innings score of 245 with a slender 11-run lead on Day 2.
