There were talks about Arshdeep Singh making his Test debut. But, following a stellar performance in the first round of the Duleep Trophy 2024, a different left-arm pacer, Yash Dayal, was selected for the India vs Bangladesh Test series. Arshdeep hasn’t let that disappointment get to him. He marched on and claimed career-best first-class figures of 90/9.
With nine Test matches coming up, Arshdeep wants to make an entry to the side. “I want to do my best in all the formats wherever I get the opportunity,” he said before the India vs Bangladesh 2nd T20I in Delhi.
Preparations & tough competition
The India vs New Zealand 3-match Test series begins on October 16, but before that, the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season kicks off on October 11. He isn’t expected to make the squad against New Zealand but can show his worth during the first phase of the Ranji Trophy and contend for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
With Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep and Yash Dayal present, breaking into the Test team won’t be easy. He’s not just fighting a left-arm pacer for a spot, but someone like Akash Deep as well, who impressed everyone with immaculate control against Bangladesh.
