When USA began their campaign for the T20 World Cup 2024, no experts saw a chance for the team to qualify for the Super Eight from a group that had India and Pakistan. Moreover, not even players of USA envisioned their team reaching the next round. USA pacer Saurabh Netravalkar was supposed to join his office on June 17th, as was evident from his Slack status reported by Insidesport.
Netravalkar forced to ask for extra leaves
Cut to the end of group stage, USA are the second team to qualify from Group A. They played some wonderful cricket, beat Pakistan and Canada to seal their Super Eight spot. Now, USA will play the Super Eight stage with renewed confidence, knowing some more good outings can land them a place in semi-finals.
And this might be the reason why Saurabh Netravalkar has extended his leave with Oracle for an indefinite period. While his earlier Slack status said he would be out of office till June 17th, now his status only reads ‘Out of Office’.
India’s 1983 World Cup memory rekindled
The change in Netravalkar’s slack status rekindles memory of India’s 1983 World Cup triumph when the whole team had made plans to return to India before the final, not expecting themselves to reach till that stage. Krishnamachari Srikkanth had even made Honeymoon plans to USA before the 1983 final.
