Amid talks of Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka stepping down, the Lankans might have suffered another setback. Their ace leg-spinner, Wanindu Hasaranga, might be ruled out of the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 in India.
The Sri Lanka squad is expected to leave for India on September 26. However, as per reports, Hasaranga has suffered another injury scare while already undergoing rehabilitation.
Due to this setback, the SLC (Sri Lanka Cricket) selectors have not yet announced their final 15-man squad for the ODI World Cup. Now, with uncertainty over Hasaranga’s recovery, it is not clear when Sri Lanka will announce their final squad or whether they will leave for India.

Wanindu Hasaranga played a crucial role in Sri Lanka’s qualification for the World Cup.
The leggie was the tournament’s (World Cup 2023 qualifiers) highest wicket-taker, picking up 22 wickets in 7 matches.
In August, Hasaranga participated in the Lanka Premier League. The all-rounder was in incredible form, both with the bat and the ball. He ended the tournament as the highest wicket-taker (19 wickets) and the highest run scorer (279 runs) and was named ‘player of the series’.
It was also the tournament where the all-rounder first suffered an injury, which has exacerbated since.

- This raises even more concerns as to who will now lead the side at the biggest cricket tournament in the world.
- Their other ace spinner, Maheesh Theekshana, is also injured, and there is still no update regarding his participation after the spinner was ruled out of the Asia Cup 2023 Final.
