Rajat Patidar has no regrets over long wait for Test debut
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Patidar admitted that the long wait to make a Test debut in India was common. The batter made 32 runs with the bat before his unlucky dismissal at the hands of Rehan Ahmed. Patidar also heaped praise on Yashasvi Jaiswal and his technique as he dominated the visitors on Day 1.
“Waiting for so long is common in Indian cricket. There are a lot of players. I was just focusing on what was there in my hands. So, at the age of 30 I came here, I’m feeling very good,” Patidar said.
Detailing on his dream come true moment on making India debut, Patidar reveals that he did not face any pressure as he walked out to the middle. The batter credited his experience from playing domestic cricket and India A tours to England and New Zealand for bolstering his confidence.
His dismissal came in the 72nd over of India’s innings. Spinner Rehan Ahmed bowled a length delivery which Patidar defended solidly but the extra bounce surprised the batter and the ball rolled on to the stumps. The 30-year-old was looking comfortable in the middle and scored a patient 32 off 72 balls before his dismissal.
