“Wait for another opportunity”: Jwala Singh urges Yashasvi Jaiswal to work hard after Champions Trophy snub

Varun Chakravarthy replaced Yashasvi Jaiswal in the India squad for the ICC Champions Trophy

Young Indian southpaw Yashasvi Jaiswal is not a part of the India Cricket Team squad for the ICC Champions Trophy. But Jaiswal’s coach Jwala Singh is not unhappy. He has his entire trust in the youngster and believes that Yashasvi will improve in the future. He further claimed it is also important for them to accept the decisions made by the selectors and wait for another opportunity.

The 23-year-old aggressive southpaw was a part of the preliminary Indian squad. But things took a turn during India’s final squad announcement. On came Varun Chakravarthy and Yashasvi was dropped as a non-traveling member of the squad. There is now no spot for Yashasvi in the team with the board choosing Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill as the prominent opening pair in the team.

Work hard to get better

Jwala Singh claimed that Yashasvi Jaiswal’s place in the preliminary ICC Champions Trophy squad was based on his performance in the India vs Australia Test series. In the Perth Test, the southpaw hammered a brilliant 150 to help India win the first Test match. Jaiswal recently made his ODI against England where he managed to score 15 runs.

Yes, I think he was part of the Champions Trophy based on his performance against Australia in the Test series. I heard Rohit Sharma on multiple occasions saying he is looking good and so without playing ODIs, you can include him in the Champions Trophy and that happened but I’m not much aware of what happened, why his name was not featured (in the final Champions Trophy squad),” Jwala Singh told NDTV.

Yashasvi’s coach claimed that they have to accept the decisions made by the selectors. He claims that the team’s combination and balance become different during such a major tournament. However, this in turn gives the youngster to work hard and improve in the future.

“But yes, we have to accept the selectors’ decision about what they feel, what kind of team balance they are looking for, and what kind of combination they are looking for. It’s all okay because he’s young and he will improve in the future. The most important thing is respecting the decisions of the decision-makers, those are selectors, and we all need to respect that and wait for another opportunity till that time he can work hard and he can get better,” he concluded.
