Visitors Bangladesh humiliate New Zealand in nine-wicket win, hosts take series 2-1

New Zealand vs Bangladesh: The hosts had won the first ODI by 44 runs, while they secured a seven-wicket win in the second.

After a drubbing in the first two ODIs of the series, visitors Bangladesh got their revenge, as they beat New Zealand by nine wickets in the third match at Napier on Saturday. Having lost the series already, the Bangladeshi Tigers looked positive ever since they opted to bowl, and bundled out the opposition for a paltry 98 in 31.4 overs. The chase for Najmul Hossain Shanto-led team was a short one, as they crossed the line in just 15.1 overs.

Even though the Kiwis pocketed the series 2-1, Bangladesh gave a good account of themselves, by strangling New Zealand batting on their home turf. Shoriful Islam, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, and part-timer Soumya Sarkar returned with three wickets each, to end the proceedings early. As for New Zealand, none of the batters could even reach the 30-run mark.

Rachin Ravindra was the first to fall for eight, while his opening partner top-scored with 26. As many as five batsmen were dismissed in single-digit scores. Partnerships were a major concern for the team, as only Henry Nicholls, and Tom Latham could score 38 together.

Records Galore in New Zealand vs Bangladesh

Courtesy of Shanto (51), and Anamul Haque (37), Bangladesh managed to register their first ODI win on Kiwi soil in 19 matches. Meanwhile, as per Stuff.co.nz, this was only the sixth time that the New Zealand team was dismissed under 100 while batting first in an ODI. Not just that, it was overall, only the ninth time, that the Black Caps failed to reach the 100-run mark in their ODI history. Now, the focus shifts to the T20I series, which starts in Napier on December 27.
