Shefali Verma, India’s 20-year-old emerging women’s cricketer, recently scored a historic double century at Chepauk in a one-off Test match against South Africa. Verma scored 205 runs, which included 23 fours and 8 sixes, in just 197 balls, and made various records. Known as ‘Lady Sehwag’ due to her aggressive batting style, Verma made the fastest double century in women’s Test cricket and set numerous records.
Speaking more about ‘Lady Sehwag,’ her 20-year-old’s double century brought back memories of India’s legendary opener, Virender Sehwag’s double century in 2008, which is nothing short of unbelievable. There have been three incredible coincidences that have caught the attention of Indian cricket fans.
Shafali Verma’s terrific Performance and likeness with Sehwag
Sixteen years ago, in 2008, Sehwag shattered the South African bowlers by scoring 319 runs off 304 balls at Chepauk Ground. Shefali, who has just scored 205 runs against the same team at the same ground, has locked few similarities with Sehwag.
Sehwag had scored 200 runs in just 194 balls against South Africa in 2008, and Shefali achieved the same feat against the Proteas women in 194 balls.
Also, Sehwag hit a six when he reached a score of 190, a similar scene witnessed during Shefali’s innings. The third coincidence is the record for the fastest double century, as Sehwag completed it in 168 balls in a Test match against Sri Lanka in 2009. Shefali achieved this as well against South Africa in 194 balls.
