India’s star batter Virat Kohli retired from T20 internationals after India’s T20 World Cup win against South Africa in Barbados. But now, he has hinted at making a comeback. Speaking on taking the U-turn, he said, he would only make a comeback in the T20Is on one condition.
Virat Kohli on coming back from retirement
Virat Kohli said that he would come out of T20 retirement only if India reaches into the finals in the Olympics 2028. “If India reaches the Olympics final in 2028, I might just think of coming out of retirement for that one match. Winning an Olympic medal would be magnificent,” Kohli said at the Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit.
Kohli’s fitness and struggles
Kohli, who is 36 year old, is one of the fittest cricketers in the world today. But when he started, he was on the heavier side. He said his fitness journey started after facing difficulties in international cricket.
“My transformation came after a few tough tours when I saw other players lasting longer on the field than us. From the team’s point of view, things weren’t too hard, but convincing my mum was tough. She thought I was looking sick. I told her that the world is talking about my training methods and I am not sick. I felt I was able to do things much better,” Kohli said.
Kohli joins RCB for IPL 2025
Kohli has joined RCB’s squad for the IPL 2025 season. The franchise shared a video of him wearing the RCB jersey, captioned, “The King is here and like always, he’s 2 steps (sometimes a LOT more) ahead of everyone.” or IPL 2025, RCB has made changes to their squad, with Rajat Patidar being appointed as the new captain. Their first match will be against defending champions KKR at Eden Gardens on Saturday.

Kohli coming fresh from the Champions Trophy win
He was in great form during India’s Champions Trophy win in Dubai last week. India, led by Rohit Sharma, defeated New Zealand in the final to claim their third title. Kohli scored 218 runs in five matches, averaging 54.50. He played a match-winning century against Pakistan and then scored a crucial 84 against Australia in the semi-final.
