Indian run machine Virat Kohli, who scored a well-deserved hundred in Perth in the second innings, has since faced a series of low scores after that. Today, after facing more than 60 balls in the New Year Test in Sydney, he was dismissed for just 17. The way he got out became both a source of frustration and amusement for every Indian cricket fan, as he was dismissed once again by an outside off-stump delivery. This marks the seventh time in the series he has fallen in a similar manner. The run machine certainly needs some ‘oil’ for his batting, as improvements are needed, especially against the crucial outside off-stump deliveries.

However, it was Australia’s Scott Boland who dismissed him once again with an outside off-stump delivery, adding to India’s woes in the ongoing SCG Test. As mentioned, this is not the first time Kohli has been dismissed in this fashion. We’ve seen it multiple times in 2024, with his ongoing struggle against outside off deliveries putting him in a tough spot. It will be interesting to see how the second innings goes for him at the SCG, as his first innings, which had looked promising, ended poorly with just 17 runs. He failed to capitalize after an early scare and couldn’t make a big score.
