While no cricketer has ever claimed the award personally, the sport has had its share of recognition at the Laureus Awards over the years. For instance, in 2002, the Australian men’s cricket team received the Team of the Year award, and in 2004, the India and Pakistan men’s national cricket teams were acknowledged under the ‘Sport for Good’ category.

Indian cricket fans had something to cheer about during this year’s ceremony, thanks to a montage featuring ‘epic moments’ in sport. This montage prominently showcased Virat Kohli‘s 50th ODI century, achieved during his 117-run innings in the World Cup semifinal against New Zealand.
