Former India captain Virat Kohli indirectly accused Sourav Ganguly and the BCCI office-bearers of lying when he said he didn’t receive any calls from any of them after he decided to step down from T20 captaincy. Ganguly had said that he personally requested him not to step down.
What Sourav Ganguly said: It’s a call that the BCCI and the selectors took together. Actually, the BCCI had requested Virat to not step down as the T20I skipper but obviously, he did not agree. I as President personally spoke to Virat Kohli and the chairman of selectors has also spoken to him.

What Virat Kohli said: I was contacted one and a half hours before the selection meeting on the 8th for the Test series and there was no prior communication to me at all. Before ending the call I was told that the five selectors had decided that I would not be the ODI captain, to which I replied, ‘ok fine’.

While BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and refrained from taking action against the sitting India captain, the bad blood didn’t end there. When Virat Kohli decided to quit Test captaincy as well, he called up BCCI secretary Jay Shah informing him that he will be stepping down as the Test captain with immediate effect. However, he didn’t call Sourav Ganguly.
Had Sourav Ganguly taken the step, it would have been the first time a sitting BCCI President issued a show-cause notice to an incumbent captain. However, with Virat Kohli era ending in the defeat in the Test series in South Africa, all can move on.
