There is no cricket rivalry bigger than India vs Pakistan. But, their showdowns have been limited to ICC events for 13 years now. Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Najam Sethi thinks that viewers in both nations want to see star players like Virat Kohli, Babar Azam, Rohit Sharma, and Shaheen Afridi go against each other.
Showdown between IPL & PSL winners
Knowing that they won’t meet more than once or twice in a year, Sethi suggests a franchise match. A game between the winners of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Pakistan Super League (PSL).
“If the situation improves, I think there should be a team of IPL champions and a PSL champion,” Sethi told Cricket Pakistan.
Given the relationship between the two nations, the potential match won’t be played in India or Pakistan. One can’t forget that Rohit Sharma and co. didn’t travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025. Sethi knows this and suggests the match take place at a neutral venue.
“If not in our own country, we can play in another country. Everyone wants to see India and Pakistan play against each other, whether in India or Pakistan,” he said.
Won’t happen soon, says Najam Sethi
The PCB chief, who was in power for three separate terms knows that talent is there, in both nations. However, he isn’t optimistic about the potential IPL vs PSL winners match happening anytime soon.
“It is our dream because, of course, India and Pakistan produce the best talent in the world. There is no doubt about it. But will it be possible in the near future? I don’t see it happening soon,” he added.
