The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will host the Naman Awards on February 1 in Mumbai. Several top stars, both men and women, are expected to be present in the celebration for players. While not all of India’s men’s cricket team will be in the audience, Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shreyas Iyer will be there along with BCCI officials.
Rohit Sharma & Shreyas Iyer to attend Naman Awards before training camp
Mumbai’s three batters pulled out of the last round of the Ranji Trophy to join a training camp set up by the BCCI before the India vs. England ODI series. Mumbai’s match against Meghalaya will be played from January 30 to February 2.
However, Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shreyas Iyer have to report in Nagpur on February 2. That’s why they can’t play the red-ball game at the Sharad Pawar Indoor Cricket Academy. But before joining the camp, all three will grace the Naman Awards.
“Rohit, Jaiswal, and Iyer are all likely to attend the BCCI’s Naman Annual Awards in Mumbai on February 1. The next day (February 2), they are supposed to report for a short camp in Nagpur before the three-match ODI series against England,” a BCCI source told the Times of India.
Virat Kohli likely to skip BCCI’s Naman Awards
As mentioned above, the last round of the Ranji Trophy is clashing with the Naman Awards. Therefore those playing the final game of the 2024-25 season won’t be present. If the match ends before the scheduled time, i.e., by February 1, you could expect Virat Kohli to attend the awards. Mumbai is where the former India skipper resides. Therefore, it won’t be a big ask for him to be present. However, if the match doesn’t end before, there isn’t a chance that Kohli will join Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer, or Jaiswal.
Others like KL Rahul, Riyan Parag, and Ravindra Jadeja won’t be there either, as they, like Kohli, are playing in the Ranji Trophy.
