Virat Kohli slams leading newspaper for ‘fake’ reports on Alibaug farmhouse

The reports claimed that Virat and Anushka purchased an eight-acre property in Zirad village.

Star Indian cricketer Virat Kohli has strongly denied rumors that he and wife, Anushka Sharma, are planning to build a cricket pitch at their Alibaug farmhouse. The rumors were initially reported by a leading news organization, but Kohli has since issued a statement on social media calling the reports “fake news.”

“Bachpan se jo akhbar padha hai woh bhi fake news chapne laga (The newspaper that we are reading since childhood is also publishing fake news these days),” Kohli mentioned in his Instagram post through Stories.

The reports claimed that Virat and Anushka purchased an eight-acre property in Zirad village, where they have been spending time during the lockdown. The veteran batter of the Indian team had reportedly paid a stamp duty of INR 36 lakh for the transaction of his 2,000 sq ft villa in Alibaug that cost him INR 6 crore.

Notably, this is not the first time Virat Kohli has came out to publicly call out fake news. Earlier this week, the former Indian skipper refuted the reports claiming that he earns over 11 crore per post on Instagram.

“While I am grateful and indebted to all that I’ve received in life, the news that has been making rounds about my social media earnings is not true”, the 34-year-old wrote on Twitter.

Notably, Virat Kohli is one of the most followed athletes in the world. The 34-year-old has over 255 million followers on Instagram.

Kohli is currently gearing up for the upcoming edition of the Asia Cup which is starting from August 30.
