Talk about lighting the stage on fire. Virat Kohli did that. In the India vs Pakistan clash in the ICC Champions Trophy, Kohli went on to reveal how he overcame his weakness of coverdrives. The particular shot has been a trademark for King Kohli. However, in recent times, he has struggled playing the shot, gifting his wickets regularly.
But a player of Virat Kohli‘s caliber always rises to the occasion at the biggest stages. And Kohli chose the ICC Champions Trophy match against Pakistan to shut his haters. He went on to slam his 82nd International ton as India reigned supreme over Pakistan by 6 wickets.
“It’s a catch-22. It has been one of my weaknesses over the years but I have also scored a lot of runs on that shot. I think today was just about backing my shots and the first couple of boundaries I got were cover drives on the rise. So, I had to let it go, take a bit of risk, and follow through with my shots. And when I hit these kinds of shots then I feel in control,” Kohli said in a video posted by the BCCI.
Kohli claimed that the cover drive shot has been one of his weaknesses. But over the years, he has went on to slam boundaries in flurry and has got huge runs from the same. Talking about the game, he said in the initial phase of the game, the ball was on thr rise, so he took some risk while playing the shots.

“It was a good innings for me personally, and it was great teamwork. I was able to bat the way I wanted to bat. And to contribute to a winning cause in an important game obviously feels great. It was imperative that we get stuck in and win to be able to qualify,” he added.
Kohli claimed that he loves batting at number 3. He believes that his role is to minimize risk and put his side in the winning position. Dubbed as the ‘Chasemaster’, Kohli executed the role to perfection as he helped his side register a stunning win.
“One thing that I always thought of batting at 3 is minimizing risk and making sure that I put my team in a winning position. If you have the chance to finish off a game in a chase, that’s much better. And I prefer such a situation. My role over the years has remained the same – Whatever the demand of the game, I put my head down and do that,” he concluded.
