Virat Kohli reassures BCCI: No problem with new head coach Gautam Gambhir

Virat Kohli has reportedly clearly communicated to the BCCI that his previous issues with Gautam Gambhir won't affect his professional relationship

India cricket team star Virat Kohli had reportedly informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that he had no issues with Gautam Gambhir being appointed as the new head coach. Speculations of how the two will co-exist started doing rounds when the former cricketer emerged as a frontrunner for the position. The rumours gained momentum despite the two stars burying their differences with a warm interaction during IPL 2024.

Virat Kohli okay working with Gambhir

As per Cricbuzz, Kohli clearly communicated to the BCCI officials that he was comfortable working with Gambhir. The batting maestro assured the board that previous issues with the former cricketer will not affect his professional relationship as the latter takes over the reins from Rahul Dravid.

It looks like Virat Kohli is very well in sync with Gambhir’s plans and principles, given that he agreed to end his vacation early and participate in the ODI series against Sri Lanka. It is understood that Gambhir had requested Rohit Sharma, Virat and Jasprit Bumrah to play the white-ball tour against the neighbours and while Ro-Ko have been added to the squad, Boom Boom has been given an extended break.

The Gambhir-Kohli saga

Both Gambhir and Kohli, who hail from Delhi, are known for the aggressive approach on the field and have often been involved in incidents where tempers have flared. The most controversial one emerged during an LSG vs RCB game in IPL 2023 when the duo had a go against each other with a verbal altercation on-field. The incident saw the involvement of Afghanistan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq as well.

While Kohli sorted out his differences with the bowler in the ODI World Cup 2023, he patched up with Gambhir as well during IPL 2024.
