Virat Kohli’s Ranji Trophy return: Delhi’s predicted XI for clash vs Railways

Virat Kohli last played in a Ranji Trophy match in 2012, against UP, where he scored 57 runs overall.

Delhi play their last Ranji Trophy group match for the 2024-25 season against Railways starting Jan 30, and ex-India skipper Virat Kohli will be the only player in focus — across teams. The 36-year-old will be playing in domestic competitions after a gap of 12 years, and yet nothing else matters — be it the result of the match or even the tournament itself.

Virat’s Ranji Trophy Return

But then, there is still some interest around, as to where will Virat Kohli bat? Well, it goes without saying that he’ll play at No. 4, his regular position, but it will be interesting to see, what all players will make the cut, as far as the playing XI is concerned, and which player will miss out.

In the last Ranji Trophy match, Delhi keeper Anuj Rawat had missed the clash vs Saurashtra, since Rishabh Pant played as the wicket-keeper, but since the latter won’t be available this time around, the youngster will be back. InsideSport takes a look at the predicted playing XI for Delhi vs Railways Ranji Trophy clash.

Virat Kohli Automatic Choice

Let us get done with Virat Kohli as the first player in Delhi XI. Then Ayush Badoni the skipper will most likely come in at No. 3. He has scored 400 runs in 6 matches, at an average of 80. Also, in contention is Yash Dhull, who has been Delhi’s highest run-scorer this year, with 412 in 6 matches at an average of 51. Sanat Sangwan will play in the middle-order, who has scored 355 in 6 matches. Aprit Rana is most likely to miss out — who opened in the match vs SAU.

Bowlers to Remain Same

Coming to the bowlers, there shouldn’t be any changes. Just like the last match, Sumit Mathur, Shivam Sharma, Harsh Tyagi and Navdeep Saini will play. But there is a catch here.. Badoni the skipper is their best bowler this season, picking 12 wickets in 4 matches. That only explains how poor the team has been this Ranji season, and lie in fifth place, in the Group D points table.

Delhi till now have played six matches this year, and won only one match and that makes it clear, they won’t progress to the next round.
