Former India cricket team fielding coach R Sridhar has shed light on Virat Kohli‘s preparations for a big series in the SENA countries. The batting maestro will next be in action in IND vs AUS 1st Test in Perth which begins on November 22. Speaking to Times of India, Sridhar warned that while Virat Kohli is entering a new phase in his career, he is still in his prime when it comes to fitness. He claimed that the former skipper was well accustomed to rigorous training before any series overseas, adding that he would be working to improve his technique. Sridhar claimed that Virat Kohli might have already faced 1000-1500 deliveries before the IND vs AUS 1st Test.

Generally, when Virat Kohli goes for a big series in SENA countries, he likes to go all in with his preparation before the first Test. He’ll arrive 10–12 days early and get a lot of sessions under his belt. Each session consists of 200–250 balls, with plenty of time in the middle, including match simulations and practice matches. He usually takes on the most difficult pitches available, asking bowlers to bowl on them,” R Sridhar said.

Virat Kohli’s miserable form in 2024

Virat Kohli isn’t at his usual best this year in Tests and it was pretty evident in the series against Bangladesh and New Zealand at home. He managed to score just 93 runs in three Tests against the Kiwis, emerging as a big headache for India ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. His performances in IND vs BAN Tests were also sub-par. Having played only 5 Test matches this year, Virat Kohli will be under tremendous pressure in Down Under to deliver with the bat.

Despite his poor form, Australia will not take Virat Kohli lightly, given his track record in Down Under. Against Australia, the ex-skipper has scored eight hundreds and and five fifties. Interestingly, Kohli has departed for a duck only on three occasions. Virat will be eyeing to break free from the shackles of poor form and regain his golden touch in IND vs AUS 1st Test in Perth.
