The path Virat Kohli travelled to become one of the best batters of the modern age wasn’t always easy for him. The man known by his supporters as ‘King Kohli’ struggled mightily to get to stardom despite coming from a modest family in Delhi, the nation’s capital. Growing up, Kohli was always a mama’s boy, and he finds greater happiness in caring for his mother than anything else.
Kohli recently spoke about his road towards self-belief on a Star Sports talk show. The 34-year-old said to presenter and commentator Jatin Sapru that he had always believed he would wear the Indian jersey and compete at the highest level for his country in cricket.
“I always had this convinced feeling that I’d play at the top level. It was just the case of performing and going up step by step, but deep down I knew that I could reach somewhere,” Kohli said.
He also discussed what happiness meant to him at the chat show, saying that his happiness upon returning home is independent of any particular outcome.
“I feel happy when I go back home, and that happiness is consistent. It is not dependent on some result or how the day has gone on the field. It is beyond everything,” Kohli continued.
The former captain of India also discussed how important it is to him to see his mother happy, saying, “I always felt like taking care of my mother is very important. For me, even today, a small thing that can make her happy, is the thing that makes me happy.”
Notably, Kohli is a member of the Indian team competing against Australia in the World Test Championship Final 2023 at the London’s Oval. The star batter, who is known for producing large scores with his willow, was unable to leave his imprint during the first innings of the summit clash and was dismissed after only scoring 14 runs.
