Virat Kohli gifts signed jersey to retiring Dean Elgar after IND vs SA 2nd Test

Virat had been respectful towards Elgar during the match too. When Elgar got out in South Africa's second innings, Kohli signalled to the team to not celebrate Elgar's wicket

Retiring South African batter Dean Elgar received a perfect farewell gift after the IND vs SA Test series. Indian batter Virat Kohli gifted a signed jersey to the Proteas skipper in a heartwarming gesture.

The IND vs SA 2nd Test ended in a day and half as India bounced back convincingly to level the series in a low scoring match. In the end, India won the tie by seven wickets as the Proteas were completely outplayed in their own backyard.

The highlight of the match came after the end of the match. Virat Kohli went up to Dean Elgar to gift him a signed jersey. Elgar accepted the gift with grace and handed over the precious gift to his spouse.

Virat had been respectful towards Elgar during the match too. When Elgar got out in South Africa’s second innings of Mukesh Kumar’s delivery, it was Virat who took the catch at 2nd slip. After palming the catch, Kohli immediately signalled to the team to not celebrate Elgar’s wicket. He even went up to the Proteas batter to congratulate him on his career.

Elgar heaped praises on India after the match.

“Tough one for us. We were positive coming into the game, but the first innings with the bat…India bowled well and used the conditions to a T. In a day, it’s a draw, but 2-nil would’ve been nice. Yeah, it was a bit of a ripper. In a naked eye, it looked a nice one, but it played different to what everyone thought it would play. Big learning curve for playing here. Still don’t regret my decision to bat first but they outskilled us in the first session,” he said.
