Virat Kohli gets Sachin Tendulkar’s blessings to continue in all three formats

Little Master has hopes that Virat Kohli will play for few more years for team India.

Weeks after the King surpassed the God, Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar believes King Virat Kohli will continue to set new benchmarks as a lot of cricket is still left in him. Tendulkar’s blessings come at a time when there are reports of Kohli still evaluating his future options in T20Is and ODIs. While he will focus on Tests for now, there is a T20 World Cup in seven months while there is ICC Champions Trophy in 2025.

Talking to ESPNcricinfo, Sachin Tendulkar said that the Indian star has more hunger and desire to achieve for the country.

“I am very sure that the journey has not stopped, there is a lot of cricket left in him and a lot of runs left in him. There is a hunger and desire to achieve more things for the country,” said former Indian batter to ESPNCricinfo.

While it’s still unclear whether Virat Kohli will continue to play T20Is including the T20 World Cup 2024, he is still at the top of his game in ODIs. In the ODI World Cup, Kohli finished with 765 runs at 95.62 average. And with ICC Champions Trophy 2025 coming up, as well as ODI World Cup 2027, if fitness permits, Virat Kohli could still surpass Sachin Tendulkar.

Sachin on Virat Kohli’s 50 ODI hundreds

India will announce their squad for the home series against South Africa and it will decide Virat’s future for the T20I career.

India’s former captain also expressed his joy after Virat broke Sachin’s record of most centuries in the ODIs. Virat scored his 50th hundred in a match against New Zealand in the ODI World Cup 2023.

“I am so happy that the record continues to stay with the country. I have always said that the record belongs to India,” he added.

Sachin also shared an anecdote about Virat, “I have seen Virat before he started playing for India. And then I have seen him grow from the youngest. In fact yesterday I narrated a funny story that happened with Virat when Virat got into the side.

In the Indian team my colleagues told him to touch his (my) feet as it was a tradition in the team. All juniors have to touch their feet. When the same player goes on to achieve such wonderful things for the country.”
