Virat Kohli reminisces about the last Test match India played against the West Indies in Roseau, Dominica, 12 years ago. Presently, only one player, besides Kohli, from that lineup is part of the current Indian squad for the upcoming series – head coach Rahul Dravid. Kohli shared a photo with Dravid on Instagram, expressing gratitude for their journey bringing them back to Dominica in different roles. In the past, India drew the third Test of the series, securing a 1-0 victory. This match marked Kohli’s debut in Test cricket, while it served as Dravid’s final Test match in the Caribbean.
“The only two guys part of the last test we played at Dominica in 2011. Never imagined the journey would bring us back here in different capacities. Highly grateful,” Kohli captioned the picture.
Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Gill, Jaiswal get into Test groove ahead of IND vs WI series
Following their loss in the World Test Championship Final against Australia, India’s upcoming tour will consist of two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is. Meanwhile, the West Indies recently experienced an early exit from the ICC World Cup qualifiers, resulting in their first absence from the men’s ODI World Cup since 1975. However, West Indies’ mentor and former captain, Brian Lara, remains optimistic about their chances to pose a challenge against the Indian team.
The upcoming series presents an opportunity for Kohli to bounce back from a disappointing performance in the WTC Final and rediscover his Test match form, which has been lacking in recent years. It also serves as a crucial period for Dravid, as his contract is due to expire after the World Cup in October-November 2023. Both Kohli and Dravid will have a chance to showcase their skills and prove themselves in their respective roles during this series.
