Virat Kohli eyes Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag’s record in IND vs SA Test series

South Africa's bowling line-up has always been a happy hunting ground for Kohli, who has scored 1236 runs against the Proteas in Tests

India’s ace batter Virat Kohli is ready and raring to go in the IND vs SA Test series after being rested in the white ball formats. While the Test series produces a chance for India to conquer the South African frontier, Kohli will eye a personal record too when he takes the field. The Indian batter can move up to the second spot in list of Indians with most runs against South Africa. The list has some of the legends of Indian cricket ahead of Virat such as Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid.

South Africa’s bowling line-up has always been a happy hunting ground for Kohli, who has scored 1236 runs against the Proteas in Tests. Kohli trails present Indian coach Rahul Dravid by 16 runs in the list and is expected to get past ‘The Wall’ in the first Test itself.

Not only Dravid, former opener Virender Sehwag is not off the bounds too, with Kohli needing only 71 runs to go past the swashbuckling former opener.

However, the final frontier remains little master Sachin Tendulkar. The distance between Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar is of a massive 506 runs, and Kohli would probably need one more series against the Proteas to go past Tendulkar.

Insidesport

For now, Kohli will aim to cross Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag in the list, which is no mean feat given the stature of these cricketers.

List of record Indian run scorers vs South Africa

Sachin Tendulkar: 1741 runs
Virender Sehwag: 1306 runs
Rahul Dravid: 1252 runs
Virat Kohli: 1236 runs
