Virat Kohli completes 16 years at RCB ahead of IPL 2024, franchise celebrates star’s ‘loyalty’

Regardless of his future playing days, Virat Kohli's 16-year association with the Royal Challengers Bangalore has cemented his status as a legend of the franchise.

IPL 2024: Today marks a momentous occasion for both Virat Kohli and the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) franchise. Virat Kohli, the star batter and former captain, has completed an incredible 16 years with RCB, solidifying his position as a one-club legend in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Journey of Success and Dedication with RCB

Virat Kohli‘s association with RCB began in 2008, following his triumph as captain of the U-19 Indian Cricket World Cup team.

Since then, he has become synonymous with the franchise, not only as their most successful batsman but arguably the most prolific run-scorer in IPL history. His batting exploits reached a peak in 2016 when he amassed over 900 runs, including a staggering four centuries, although RCB fell short of glory in the finals that year.

Leadership and Transition: Virat Kohli

Kohli’s dedication extended beyond his batting prowess. He captained RCB for several seasons, leading the team with passion and strategic vision. In 2022, he stepped down from the captaincy, paving the way for Faf du Plessis to take the reins.

RCB’s viral Tribute ahead of IPL 2024

The Royal Challengers Bangalore took to social media to celebrate Virat Kohli’s remarkable 16-year journey.

A special video montage showcasing Kohli’s various moods and iconic moments with the franchise, accompanied by a powerful KGF song, garnered immense online attention. The caption simply stated, “Loyalty above all. We love you, King Kohli.”

Virat Kohli future with RCB: A Question Mark

While Virat Kohli’s loyalty to RCB is undeniable, his participation in the upcoming IPL 2024 season remains unclear. Currently in London with his wife Anushka Sharma and their young daughter, he hasn’t made any official statements regarding his availability. His absence from the recent Test series against England due to the birth of his child and a subsequent break from cricket further fuel speculation.

Looking Ahead: Legacy of Loyalty

Regardless of his future playing days, Virat Kohli’s 16-year association with the Royal Challengers Bangalore has cemented his status as a legend of the franchise. His unwavering dedication and exceptional skills have not only propelled RCB to success but have also redefined loyalty in the dynamic world of the IPL.
