Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah on Wednesday reached the pinnacle of ICC Test rankings among bowlers. Bumrah became the only bowler from Asia to be the World’s number 1 bowler in all three formats, although not at the same time. There’s only one other Asian batter who achieved the rare feat of being World No. 1 in all three formats and it does not come as a surprise that the name is Virat Kohli.
Bumrah had a brilliant match in the IND vs ENG 2nd Test, taking 9 wickets in the match including a 6-fer in the first innings. With his impressive bowling performance, the speedster replaced South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada as the number 1 bowler in Tests. Bumrah had been the number one bowler in ODIs for a brief period in 2022. He is currently ranked no. 6 in the ODI format. In T20Is, he is currently ranked 99th.
The only other Asian to achieve world no 1 ranking in all formats is Indian batter Virat Kohli. Kohli has been the most consistent batter for India since making his debut. He had reached the pinnacle of the World rankings in all three formats in different times.
Kohli had been the world’s no 1 T20I batter in 2016. Kohli reached the number one spot in the ICC rankings for ODI batters for the first time in 2013. He regained his position in ODIs for 1,258 days from August 2017 to April 2021. In Tests, Kohli ended 2018 as the number one batter.
