Kohli’s last ODI hundred came 1214 days back. The fact that makes it huge is that at one point of time, Kohli used to make tons for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

It goes without saying that after leaving Ponting behind, Virat Kohli will be eying Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s record. He will be chasing the Indian batting legend in not one, but two records. Sachin has the most number of hundreds in international cricket, but he has also scored most 100s in ODIs. Sachin has 49 ODI tons from 463 matches, but Kohli has already scored 44 hundreds from mere 265 matches.

Tendulkar was the one among many to congratulate both Ishan Kishan and Virat Kohli for their fine efforts against Bangladesh.

2022 – Kohli’s comeback year

Insidesport

2022 in more than one ways has been a comeback year for Virat Kohli. He decided to give up the Test captaincy and concentrated purely on his batting. The results are there to be seen.

The biggest record in front of King Kohli on the tour of Bangladesh was the record of centuries in international cricket. At present, Kohli has 72 international centuries to his name, and he has now gone past Ricky Ponting in this case. Virat Kohli now has 2 Test matches to better this record. He is now number two in the list of centuries after Sachin Tendulkar (100).

Kohli at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium also completed 1,000 ODI runs in Bangladesh. This was also Kohli’s fourth ODI hundred against Bangladesh and his sixth overall on their soil. His highest score in ODIs in Bangladesh came against Pakistan in 2012.

Kohli, who wasn’t in his best shape for a long time, has now found his mojo again. He concluded the Asia Cup 2022 as the second-highest run scorer with 276 runs from five innings, including a century against Afghanistan. It was his 71st century in international cricket and his first-ever T20I century.

Then, the legendary batter finished with 296 runs from six games, including four half-centuries, to become the T20 World Cup 2022’s leading scorer in Australia. With number 72 behind him now, Kohli can concentrate on reviving his Test numbers, which have taken a beating in the past few years.

Who knows, with T20I and ODI hundreds in his kitty this year already, Kohli might just be able to end 2022 on a high with a century across all three formats.

With King Kohli, you never say never!
