Vijaykumar Vyshak derails Shreyas Iyer’s Test comeback trail in Duleep Trophy

Shreyas has a healthy 48 average in first-class cricket but has been performed underwhelmingly in Test cricket.

Shreyas Iyer’s return to first-class cricket hasn’t gotten off to a great start. Leading the Team D team in the Duleep Trophy 2024, the 29-year-old failed to impress. After losing the toss, Team C decided to have a bowl. The move turned out to be a masterstroke. In the very first over, Anshul Kamboj struck, and captain Shreyas walked into the middle, just 5 balls into the match.

Shreyas Iyer’s not so great outing

The ball was doing tricks in Anantapur, and the batter from Mumbai was struggling against Vijaykumar Vyshak. Kamboj from the other end wasn’t troubling Shreyas, but Vyshak had him dumbfounded. Shreyas faced just 16 balls, scoring 9 runs. Of these 16, 10 were delivered by Vyshak. The right-arm pacer beat his inside and outside edge multiple times during this short stay and ultimately got him out caught behind on a good length ball just outside off stump, which Shreyas looked to defend.

Shreyas Iyer was looking to make it to the squad for the India vs Bangladesh series. After being excluded from the team during the England series earlier in the year. Post that, he was dropped from the BCCI central contract and played just 3 Ranji Trophy matches, where he averaged 38.5.

To find himself in the Test team once again, he needed to show his mettle in the Team C vs D match. However, this poor outing leaves him with just one more innings. Mind you, the squad for the Bangladesh Tests will be announced after the first round of the Duleep Trophy is over.
