India debut in Sri Lanka series:

Gaikwad’s fine run in the IPL 2021 earned the Maharashtra batter a call-up in the Indian squad when the side toured Sri Lanka under the leadership of Shikhar Dhawan. Making his T20I debut, Gaikwad scored 35 in 2 innings.

Moreover, Virat Kohli led side will tour South Africa for 3 ODIs and 3 Tests. The selection committee is expected to announce the squad today and Gaikwad seems to have hit right at the spot. With Shikhar Dhawan almost sidelined from the opening slot, and the team looking forward to giving opportunities to young guns – it won’t be much of a surprise if he gets included in the South Africa squad.
