On day 1 itself, we’ve witnessed plenty of action, records being broken, and some outstanding performances, along with comebacks from both teams and players in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25. On Saturday, in the first round of matches, most teams played exceptionally well, although several were eliminated early. Senior Indian players like Owais Khan and Shreyas Iyer shone with remarkable performances. Even uncapped players, like those unsold in the IPL auction, have made their mark, with Sharma creating a record. Let’s look at what transpired in the Round One matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Shreyas Iyer’s speedy knock
What can we say about Shreyas Iyer? He’s just exceptional right now. After smashing runs in SMAT, now he played brilliantly for Mumbai on Saturday, scoring 101 runs in just 55 balls with a strike rate of 207.27. Along with Shivam Dube and Hardik Tagore, he helped Mumbai post 382 runs in 50 overs against the mighty Karnataka team. His form is truly remarkable, showing that he is ready for the upcoming Champions Trophy challenge in the months ahead.
Karnataka’s 2nd higest chase in Vijay Hazare Trophy
Karnataka achieved the fifth-highest successful run chase in List A cricket during its Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024/25 match against Mumbai in Ahmedabad. Karnataka chased a huge target of 383 runs in just 46.2 overs at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ground B. Krishnan Shrijith was the top scorer, hitting an unbeaten 150 off 101 balls. This was the second-highest successful run chase in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Andhra holds the record with 384 runs against Goa in the 2011/12 season.
Avesh Khan shines for Madhya Pradesh
Avesh Khan, the fast bowler, once again showed his class for Madhya Pradesh, taking 3 wickets in the match against Bihar. Madhya Pradesh bundled out Bihar for just 196 runs in 46.4 overs, thanks to Avesh’s impressive performance, as he gave away only 21 runs in his 9 overs. Rajat Patidar also played brilliantly for Madhya Pradesh, scoring a knock of 55 runs off 33 balls. Along with him, wicketkeeper Harsh Gavali scored a remarkable 83 runs off 63 balls, guiding Madhya Pradesh to a well-deserved victory.
Anmolpreet Singh sets a record
Anmolpreet Singh set a new record as the fastest Indian batter to score a century. The Punjab batsman scored an outstanding century off just 35 balls against Arunachal Pradesh. Surprisingly, Anmolpreet went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction, despite having a base price of 30 lakh. However, he’s proven that his omission was a mistake and that he is ready to take on bigger challenges. With his explosive batting, he has shown the selectors that he has the spark and ability to score quickly and efficiently.
