Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022: After Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the domestic 50-overs tournament is here. But not other domestic heavyweights, Himachal Pradesh will be the team to beat. The defending champions of Vijay Hazare Trophy reached the final of Mushtaq Ali and will look to defend their title. The tournament starts on November 2 with the final on December 2. A total of 38 teams will feature divided into three groups of eight sides and two groups comprising seven teams.

Himachal Pradesh will look to defend its title in the upcoming competition:

Himachal Pradesh will head into the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022-23 season as defending champions, having beaten Tamil Nadu by 11 runs (VJD method) in the last season’s final. However, Tamil Nadu will also start as favourites. They are the most successful team in the competition. TN have won the title in 2002-03, 2004-05, 2008-09, 2009-10, and 2016-17.

Among others, Mumbai and Karnataka are two other favourites. However, teams like Madhya Pradesh, Bengal, and Hyderabad are also dark horses.

Vijay Hazare Groups:

Group A: Saurashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Tripura, and Manipur

Group B: Rajasthan, Karnataka, Vidarbha, Jharkhand, Delhi, Assam, Meghalaya, and Sikkim

Group C: Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Haryana, Bihar, and Arunachal

Group D: Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Odisha, Baroda, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, and Nagaland.

Group E: Maharashtra, Services, Bengal, Pondicherry, Railways, Mumbai, and Mizoram

Vijay Hazare 2022 Format:

Table toppers from each group qualify for the quarter-finals

According to the qualification scenarios, group-toppers from each group will directly qualify for the quarter-finals. The second-placed teams from all five groups will be ranked as 6-10 and the top-ranked team from all the remaining teams across groups based on points/wins/NRR will play pre-quarter-finals.

Fixtures:

The group stage encounters will start on November 12 with as many as 18 matches to be played on the opening day. The last day for group stage encounters is November 23 with the same number of matches scheduled as the opening day.

Preliminary Quarter-Finals

The three preliminary quarter-finals are set to be played on November 26 with all games starting at 9 in the morning. The venues for the clashes are yet to be finalized.

Quarter Finals:

All four quarter Finals of the tournament will be played on November 28 (Monday) with the matches starting at 9:00 AM. The venues for the encounters are yet to be decided.
