The Indian Premier League (IPL) features fierce rivalries. One such big contest is on 28 March between Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chepauk Stadium. However, in between the Yellow Sea, the CSK fans came to see India’s star batter and Virat Kohli. A recent video shared by RCB on social media showed Kohli signing autographs and taking selfies with fans at Chepauk during a practice session.
Universal appeal of Kohli
Many fans at the stadium wore CSK’s iconic yellow, while others sported the blue of the Indian national team. Yet, they were equally excited to catch a glimpse of Kohli, highlighting his broad appeal. Such admiration recalls the 2023 season, rumoured to be MS Dhoni’s last IPL, where even opposition fans donned CSK colours to honour him.
Kohli’s storied career
Kohli is lauded as one of cricket’s greatest batters, holding the record for the most centuries in ODIs. His talent captivates fans nationwide, regardless of team allegiances. Entering his first IPL season since retiring from T20Is, Kohli stepped back from this format following the 2024 T20 World Cup, where he delivered a player-of-the-match performance, clinching India’s first ICC title in 11 years.
