Vidarbha’s Harsh Dubey scripts history, becomes highest wicket-taker in a single Ranji Trophy season

Harsh Dubey broke the record for most wickets in a Ranji Trophy season, taking 69 scalps during the 2024-25 final against Kerala.

Vidarbha’s left-arm spinner Harsh Dubey made history by breaking the record for most wickets in a single Ranji Trophy season during the 2024-25 final against Kerala at the VCA Stadium, Jamtha in Nagpur. Dubey has been exceptional throughout the season, scalping 69 wickets so far in the season with the final match still going on.

In the second innings of the final match, Dubey claimed his record-breaking wicket by dismissing Nidheesh MD. Earlier, he had taken key wickets, including Aditya Sarvate and Salman Nizar. With this, Dubey surpassed Bihar’s Ashutosh Aman’s previous record of 68 wickets from the 2018-19 season. Unlike Aman, Dubey achieved his milestone in the more competitive Elite Group, where Vidarbha remained unbeaten.

Harsh Dubey in Ranji Trophy as an all-rounder

Beyond his bowling, Dubey has also been impressive with the bat, scoring 472 runs in 17 innings with five half-centuries. This achievement makes him only the fourth player in Ranji Trophy history to achieve the all-rounder’s double of over 450 runs and 50 wickets in a single season. His adaptability on slow turners and flat tracks, honed through experiences in Chennai’s TNCA first-division league and insights from legendary off-spinner R Ashwin, has contributed to his success.

Setbacks for Harsh Dubey

Despite his stellar contributions, which include setting up a semi-final win over Mumbai with his seventh five-wicket haul of the season, Dubey was overlooked for the Duleep Trophy in September 2024. His record-breaking season might bring more good news for the all-rounder in future, drawing attention to his potential future in higher levels of cricket.
