Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) head coach Daniel Vettori continues to support the team’s aggressive approach despite facing their fourth consecutive loss in IPL 2025; this time it was against Gujarat Titans (GT). However, the coach thinks that this approach is necessary for better results.
Vettori’s reflections and belief in strategy
At the post-match press conference, Vettori acknowledged the pressure of their current losing streak but emphasised the importance of sticking to their aggressive game plan. He pointed out, “I think we know the style is going to work, but we have to respect conditions, and we have to assess really well and that’s probably something we haven’t done. Also, [we] have to respect how well other teams are bowling, putting a lot of planning into our top three and they haven’t been able to execute it at times.”
Vettori maintained confidence in their approach that brought them success last year, saying, “I don’t think Pat [Cummins] has ever panicked in his life and I think I’m pretty similar. But we understand the ramifications of losing four in a row and how difficult it makes the season.”
Challenges faced by SRH
SRH’s aggressive batting, which has been a key strength, has not yielded expected results this season. During the match against GT, their batting lineup struggled, scoring only 152 runs against a formidable bowling attack led by Mohammed Siraj, who took 4/17, and Prasidh Krishna, who took 2/25.
Their bowling also faltered as GT chased down the target easily with contributions from Shubman Gill (unbeaten 61), Washington Sundar (49), and Sherfane Rutherford. As a result, SRH finds itself at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table.
