Venkatesh Iyer Exclusive Interview: ‘Watching Dhoni on ground was surreal, he is really a CAPTAIN-COOL’, says KKR hero Venkatesh Iyer
InsideSport: Venkatesh first of all congratulations for whatever show you have put-up in last 1 month. But it ended in disappointing note in the IPL Finals
Venkatesh Iyer: Yes like all KKR fans, it is disappointing to lose in the finals. It wasn’t our day. Win & defeat are part & parcel of any sport. Entire team gave our best but it wasn’t enough, wasn’t our day.
I am pleased, I could contribute well & score well for the team.
InsideSport: What’s so special about CSK, did you meet Dhoni during the finals?
Venkatesh Iyer: I could not talk to him, I was in complete awe. I just kept watching & observing him on the ground. He is exactly like what everyone describes about him. It was surreal to see him in front of me. He was so calm, so cool. From far I can make out how calmly he conducts himself, creates strategies that can change the course of the match. He is rightly called ‘CAPTAIN-COOL’
InsideSport: And in comparison your own KKR captain, Eoin Morgan?
Venkatesh Iyer: He is champion par excellence. He is world cup winning captain, he takes the entire team with him. I really enjoyed playing under him.
InsideSport: Did team owner Sharukh Khan spoke to the team? Did he speak to the team before or after finals?
Venkatesh Iyer: Yes he speaks to the team members & the management on regular basis. Before finals as well we got BEST-WISHES message from him. I am yet to speak to him separately
InsideSport: Ready for another experience of life? You are joining team India to lend supporting hand for the T20 World Cup, how does it feel to play the role?
Venkatesh Iyer: I can’t describe, how happy I feel. I have been given this opportunity, I will contribute to the best of my abilities. I don’t know what future holds for me, I will just give my best whenever & in whatever way I am given a chance by the BCCI.
