Vegetarian Virat Kohli channels inner foodie, makes ‘special lunch’ request to DDCA chef

Virat Kohli has played only 23 Ranji Trophy matches till now, where he has scored 1574 runs at an average of 50.77.

Not Virat Kohli‘s performance, but his diet has been the most discussed topic upon his return to Ranji Trophy after a gap pf 12 years. A couple of days back, a report claimed that he had kadhi chawal with the Delhi team after the practice session, and now a report in Indian Express revealed his food preference for lunch, on the first day of the Delhi vs Railways clash at the Arun Jaitley Ground.

What was Virat Kohli’s lunch?

Sanjay Jha, DDCA’s chef for the last 20 years, revealed what Virat Kohli requested him for. “Wo pehle chicken chilli bahut khaata tha. Iss baar unhone paneer chilli banane ko bola (When he was young, he used to love chicken chilli, but for today he has requested me to cook chilli paneer for him,” Sanjay Jha told the publication.

He personally met me yesterday after the training session and requested me for chilli paneer. He called me by name ‘Sanjay ji.’ Itna badaa aadmi ban gayaa hai lekin mera naam yaad hai usko (He has become so big now. He still remembers my name.) “For the past two days after the practice session, he had requested for Kadhi Chawal.”

Meanwhile, elaborate arrangements were made by the DDCA, to accommodate massive crowd, who would just come to see Virat Kohli play. Secretary Ashok Kumar Sharma said, “We were expecting around 10,000 fans but this is beyond our expectations. I hope he will also play in our Delhi Premier League (DPL),” he laughed.

Initially, gate 16 and 17 were kept open for the fans, but later gate 18 was also open, ensuring safe entry of fans into the stadium. Coming back to Virat, in 23 matches, he has scored 1574 runs at an average of 50.77.
