Varun Chakravarthy has rattled England single-handedly in this tour.
England have no answers to Varun Chakravarthy’s bowling. They just don’t. The Three Lions have been rattled by the mystery spin of Chakravarthy, who has taken a five-wicket haul in the third T20 international in Rajkot. Just like he did in the first two games, Chakravarthy weaved his magic and took five spectacular wickets on Tuesday. Courtesy of his superb spell of magic, Chakravarthy broke multiple records.
As a result, Chakravarthy has now become only one of the three Indian bowlers to take multiple five-wicket hauls for India. The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spinner had a fifer in India’s last T20I bilateral against South Africa and now it is his second T20I fifer. He has joined the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Kuldeep Yadav, who also have multiple fifers.
Varun Chakravarthy’s incredible comeback story just got even more impressive! While his standout IPL 2024 season—where he took 21 wickets at an average of 14.00 and led KKR to victory—was a major highlight, it’s his consistent domestic performances that have really kept him firing on all cylinders.
His 19-wicket haul in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2023 was a particular standout, and since his return to the international stage, he’s taken a whopping 27 T20I wickets at an average of just 10.96, making him the top wicket-taker in the format for India and among all full-member nations! He has operated at a bowling strike rate of 8.8. These are absolutely insane numbers.
