Australia cricket team opener Usman Khawaja, who became Jasprit Bumrah’s bunny in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, relished the fact that he didn’t have to face the ace pacer in the 2nd innings of IND vs AUS 5th Test. The Indian captain was forced to stay off the field for a little over two sessions in Sydney after sustaining a back spasm. The Australian batter was dismissed by the pacer six times in eight innings in the tour, clearly showing his struggle against the stalwart.
Usman Khawaja relives Bumrah nightmare from IND vs AUS series
Speaking to ABC, Khawaja stated that he was happy to not face Bumrah in the 2nd innings at SCG. He admitted that he was getting “Bumrah-ed” throughout the tournament, and claimed that it was tough work facing the pacer in Down Under. The fiery bowler finished with 32 wickets to his name, becoming the highest wicket-taker for India in the tour.
“It was friggin’ tough work. It was tough work. People were asking me ‘what’s going on?’ I’m being honest, I’m just getting Bumrah-ed. You never want to see anyone injured and it’s a shame he was, but thank God for us. Because today would have been an absolute nightmare facing him on that wicket,” Usman Khawaja said.

Further, the Australian admitted that while he had faced Bumrah in the past, he was very different this year. He also said that he never felt that he could score off the Indian pacer. Further, he revealed that Australia felt that they had a chance of winning the 5th Test only when they realized that Bumrah was not on the field.
“And you can see what a big part of their team he was. And everyone felt it. As soon as we didn’t see Bumrah out there, we had this sense of feeling that we’ve actually got a chance here,” Khawaja added.
