USA secure T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 spot and automatic qualification for next edition in 2026

It looks like there are some surprises in store for the USA, or you could say it's the cherry on top for the T20 World Cup debutants.

USA, which we assumed wouldn’t pose a threat to any quality sides or make much of an impact. Now has now become a giant killer. And now, these giant killers are on the Super Eight stage, and not only this, the tournament debutants are also qualified for the T20 World Cup 2026.

Super Eight equals to direct qualification for T20 World Cup 2026

Since securing a spot in the Super Eight in the T20 World Cup 2024 guarantees direct qualification for the 2026 edition, it’s clear that the USA, who had a game against Ireland, needed just one point to qualify for the Super Eight stage. However, the match got affected by rain, and they managed to qualify for the Super Eight stage with 5 points, confirming their spot in the T20 World Cup 2026.

USA have a historic outing

Speaking more about their historic performance in this edition. All three games they have played to date in the T20 World Cup 2024 tell some stories. On one hand, they convincingly won the first game against Canada. Whereas on the other hand, in the second game, which came as a shock to many cricket fans, they defeated Pakistan.

Although they lost the game against India, it’s right to say they gave them a tough fight. It’s fair to say that, along with India, the tournament’s debutants also deserve to be in the Super Eight from Group A.

What about eliminated full member nations now?

Some full member nations, such as Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and New Zealand, are out of the T20 World Cup. But they still can qualify for the 2026 edition based on their rankings. New Zealand and Pakistan, who are ranked 6th and 7th respectively. Also Sri Lanka, who are the hosts, along with India for the next edition of the World Cup, are also well positioned to qualify.
