The day has arrived when India take on Bangladesh for a 2-match Test series. While Rohit Sharma and Co hold the top spot of the World Test Championship (WTC), it is of paramount importance that they win the next games. Australia are currently breathing on India’s neck at the second place, and a slight slip-up for India can see them losing the top spot.
As things stand, India occupy the top spot, followed by Australia, New Zealand and Bangladesh. With India Cricket Team playing 10 Test matches in the next three months, it is of utmost importance that India keep on winning the games to extend their lead over Australia in the WTC Standings.

What happens if India wins both the Matches?
That would definitely be the ideal scenario. If India manages to win both the Test matches, then India would obviously retain their top spot and also extend their lead over arch rivals Australia.
In such a case India will have a 8 point lead over the Aussies while Bangladesh will drop to the 7th spot in the standings.
1 Win and a Draw?
In the odd chance that India manages to win one Test match and draws the other, then also India manages to retain the top spot. But that would be just by the skin. A win and a draw means India would be tied with Australia with 90 points. But India will get the Advantage as they will have played a Test match less than Australia.
1 draw and a Loss?
Upsets can happen any time in Sports. And in the IND vs BAN Test series, the visitors can cause a major upset given they went on to beat Pakistan 2-0 in Pakistan just a few weeks back. In the odd case that India manages a draw and a loss, then Australia takes the top spot. India will drop to the second spot while Bangladesh will climb above the Kiwis to take third spot.
2 Draws
With nothing to separate between both the sides, there is a chance that both the Test matches ends up as draws. In this precarious situation both India and Bangladesh would be the eventual losers as far as the WTC Standings is considered. India will drop to the second spot while Australia will go above India. Bangladesh however would drop to the fifth spot below Sri Lanka.
2 Losses
In the offset chance of India going down to Bangladesh 2-0 in the Test series, India will be out of the top 2 spot in the WTC Standings. Naturally, Australia will go on the top spot while Bangladesh will climb from the 4th to the second spot. India will drop 2 places to sit at the third spot, closely followed by New Zealand.
