Ups and downs of Glenn Maxwell: Why criticising RCB all-rounder isn’t justified?

RCB all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has not been the best form his lie in the current edition of IPL. However, his IPL and T20 numbers tell us a different story

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) all-rounder Glenn Maxwell hasn’t lived up his nickname the ‘Big Show’ in IPL 2024 so far. After a string of poor outings with both bat and ball, the Aussie was left out of the XI in RCB’s latest match against Mumbai Indians. The side has been heavily dependent on Maxwell, who has played some memorable knocks for the side in the past. However, there are equal, or more number of poor outings, on the other hand.

But with that being said, one can’t forget the skill that Maxwell possesses and the stats the has to back it up. He has been an absolute monster in the shortest format for Australia, a crucial part of their line-up and a star who can deliver at the big stage. Let’s not forget, he has certainly proved why he is one of the best finishers for RCB. A bad start to a fresh season or a campaign can’t be a reason to target a star who has all the skills, is it? Well, let the numbers do the talking and you can decide for yourselves.

Latest IPL news

Be it the IPL or T20s in general, Maxwell’s performances have seen ups and downs consistently. But what is important to note is his ability to deliver when the team needs him the most. He had more than a decent run in the IPL in 2023, only to go on to torment India and be a part of the World Cup winning Australia sqaud,

There was much clamour before the game against MI over benching Maxwell to give all-rounder Will Jacks a chance. While the team management was right to hand Jacks a debut as there were reports of Maxwell being injured, the criticism directed at the Aussie isn’t justified over his form, simply beacuse that is a pattern that has been seen repeateldy in his career. When the momentum gets going his way, there’s no stopping Maxwell. But if luck ain’t on his side, then the entire season starts to look bleak for the all-rounder.
